Espionage 2.8.13 Released!

I know I know! I’m getting tired of the 2.8 series as well! :-p

  • NOTE: This update will cause the installer to run again (prompting you for your admin password)
  • FIXED: removed “failed to get node path” console messages in ispyd.log on Lion
  • FIXED: issue with application associations on Lion
  • IMPROVED: removed some 10.5 dependencies. recompiled with llvm-gcc.

Bear with us, Lion turned out to cause some unexpected issues that weren’t caught in the 2.8.12 release, so this maintenance release is mainly for Lion compatibility.

As mentioned, this release no longer supports Mac OS 10.5 Leopard. If you need a Leopard compatible version of Espionage, please use version 2.8.10 instead.

Enjoy! 😀

    What is ispyd.log?
I’m seeing a log file that updates every few seconds and grows without bounds (or at least until it hits 254MB). As of last night, it’s causing my SuperDuper backup to fail. I searched for information about this log and was pointed here. But I don’t believe that I’ve ever put Espionage on this laptop; I don’t recognize the app and I can’t find it when I search for it. I also don’t find any process running in Activity Monitor named Espionage.

Does this mean anything to you? Is there any other app that’s writing to the ispyd log file that you know of?

Hi Chuck, please check our support forums for the answer (blog comments aren’t for support).

iSpy is what Espionage 2 uses, and neither iSpy nor Espionage are compatible with the latest OS’s from Apple.

You can use the instructions here to remove it: https://www.taoeffect.com/forum/index.php?topic=765.msg6206#msg6206

    Follow-up.
BTW, if it helps, here’s the text that’s being added to the ispyd.log file every few seconds:

/System/Library/Extensions/iSpy.kext failed to load – (libkern/kext) requested architecture/executable not found; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).
[ispyd] ERROR: ioctl couldn’t get ID for kernel control: No such file or directory
(kernel) Kext com.taoeffect.ispy.kext not found for unload request.
